Victorian Kitchen Renovation
The original kitchen in this spacious Victorian home was small and inefficient. By demolishing the adjacent storage area and powder room and constructing a 128 sq. ft. addition, a new 267 sq. ft. kitchen was created. The spacious center island houses the dishwasher and sink, and provides ample space for food prep and storage. Honed soapstone countertops add contrast to the custom birch cabinetry while the ceramic tile backsplash of warm greens and gold add texture and color. Located at the far end of the kitchen is a baking station, with a lowered countertop. The new bay window, with a built-in window seat, creates an informal eating area and fills the enlarged kitchen with natural light. The focal point of the new powder room is the striking tile wainscot. Handcrafted by a local artisan, each tile was individually set in place. Architectural details such as the beadboard porch ceiling, support column and soffit brackets provide design continuity between the addition and original home.
