Vintage-Style Bathroom
Before moving into their newly purchased home, built in the 1930s, the owners decided to remodel a few rooms including the master bath. The existing bath and master bedroom closet were one continuous space, with a fiberglass shower located in the middle. The homeowners wanted to improve the space plan and upgrade the plumbing fixtures yet wanted the remodeled bath to have a vintage-style, consistent with the home’s era. A wall was framed behind the new over-sized soaking tub, separating the bathroom and closet. New shower walls were framed, slightly extending the enlarged shower into the existing hallway. Using a frameless shower door gives the shower a more open feel. The toilet was relocated to the other end of the bathroom freeing up space for his and her vanities. Custom birch cabinetry, constructed to match the original medicine cabinet, provide additional storage. Polished ‘Black Forest’ granite countertops provide contrast with the undermount sinks and limestone tile. Architectural details such as the angled ceiling, arched doorway and built-in medicine cabinet were retained.
